The Grand Prix circuit runs on roads that are open to traffic the rest of the year: Sainte-Dévote, the climb past Beau Rivage to Casino Square, the drop to Mirabeau, the Fairmont hairpin, the tunnel, then back along Port Hercule. Driving them in a classic car, even at town speed, is enough to raise the hairs on your arms.

The Historic Grand Prix of Monaco, held every two years, sends single-seaters and sports cars from the pre-war era to the 1980s around the same layout, and every winter the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique brings crews from all over Europe. From Nice, the Moyenne Corniche crosses the Col de Villefranche, runs beneath the perched village of Èze and drops down into the Principality. Once in Monaco, follow the Grand Prix layout in normal traffic: Sainte-Dévote, Beau Rivage, Casino Square, Mirabeau, the Fairmont hairpin, the tunnel, the harbour chicane, the Swimming Pool and La Rascasse. Just over 3 km at 50 km/h, red lights included; one-way streets sometimes mean a small detour to close the lap.
Sainte-Agnès, Col de la Madone and Peille
Half a day, about 60 km
To escape the crowds, head uphill. From Menton, a twisting road climbs to Sainte-Agnès, often described as Europe's highest coastal village, then on to the Col de la Madone, a famous training climb for pro cyclists. Drop down to Peille, a medieval village the tour buses skip, and return to Monaco via La Turbie. The road is narrow and passing places are tight, so pick a compact car and take your time.

The legendary Rallye Monte-Carlo stage. From Menton, the Col de Castillon leads to Sospel, then the road follows the Bévéra valley through Moulinet up to the Col de Turini, 1,607 m up in the forest. Descend through La Bollène-Vésubie and the Vésubie valley, then back to Nice. Best kept for drivers comfortable on mountain roads, outside the snow season, in a car we'll help you choose. Leave early and check road conditions before you go.

- Our cars are based in Nice, about 20 km away. We deliver to Monaco on request, to your hotel, residence or the harbour, with a walkthrough on the spot. You can also collect the car in Nice and arrive by the corniche, which is half the fun.
- When to come
- The car is yours from 9 am to 8 pm. Spring and autumn are perfect for the mountain passes. In summer the Principality is busy in the afternoon, so aim for Casino Square early in the morning. During the Grand Prix and the Historic Grand Prix, including set-up and dismantling, traffic changes a lot: check before you plan.
- Driving and parking in Monaco
- Street spaces are rare, but public car parks are plentiful and well signposted: the Casino car park for Monte-Carlo, the Pêcheurs car park for the Rock, where car access is restricted. Tunnels, public lifts and one-way streets come thick and fast, so plan your route beforehand, as sat navs sometimes lose the plot underground.

- Drivers must be 25 or over with a licence held for 3 years. Insurance for two drivers and 150 km per day are included. A deposit secures the booking, the balance is due at handover, and the security deposit runs from €4,000 to €12,000 depending on the car. Full tank out, full tank back. No formalities are needed to cross from France into Monaco.

Yes, the layout is made of public streets open to traffic most of the year. Only the weeks of set-up, racing and dismantling change things. The rest of the time you drive at 50 km/h with everyone else, which takes nothing away from rounding the Fairmont hairpin in a period car.
Where should I park a classic car in Monaco?
In the covered public car parks rather than on the street. The Casino car park is ideal for Monte-Carlo, the Pêcheurs car park for walking up to the Rock and the Prince's Palace. Your car stays out of the sun and away from hurried door openings.
Can I rent during the Grand Prix or the Historic Grand Prix?
Yes, but book early, as those weekends are in high demand all along the coast. Traffic is heavily restricted around the circuit, so we suggest enjoying the corniches and La Turbie on those days and arranging delivery outside the closed zones.
How long does it take to drive from Nice to Monaco?
It's about 20 km, so 30 to 45 minutes on the Moyenne Corniche outside rush hour, longer on the Basse Corniche in summer. The Grande Corniche is the slowest, and also the most spectacular.
Is the Col de Turini suitable for a classic car?
Yes, in good weather and outside the snow season. The route from Monaco back to Nice is about 130 km, within the 150 km included if you leave early and skip detours. We'll steer you towards a car that suits mountain roads and recommend checking conditions the day before.
