Driving the Ford Mustang V8
The Mustang is the opposite of a European sports car: you climb in, slot the lever into D and let the 289 V8 do the work. The automatic gearbox makes it instantly drivable, even if you have never sat in a classic, and the eight cylinders deliver their torque from low revs with a deep rumble that turns heads along the Croisette. It rewards a relaxed style: slow American steering, soft suspension and period brakes that like a little forward planning. Above all, it is one of the few convertibles in the fleet with four seats, and two adults fit in the back for a coastal outing. The trunk takes two medium bags. Ideal for a group of friends or a family with two older children.
Where to drive it
From Cannes, cruise the Croisette out to the Palm Beach point, then head for Mandelieu-la-Napoule and pick up the Corniche d'Or, which winds between the red rocks of the Esterel and the sea. Théoule-sur-Mer, Le Trayas, Anthéor: one cove follows another and the bends flow at a pace the V8 enjoys. Pull over at Pointe de l'Aiguille or Cap du Dramont for a group photo, then come back the same way in the late afternoon, when the porphyry glows deep red.

What is the price and the deposit?
790 euros a day, 9am to 8pm, with 150 km, insurance for two drivers and a tailor-made itinerary. The security deposit is 5,000 euros.
