Its story

Driving the Alfa Romeo Spider 1300 Junior
The Spider 1300 Junior has the smallest engine in the family and is arguably the most playful. Its twin cam four cylinder loves to rev, the five speed manual gearbox is precise, and the car is so light you can place it to the inch. The driving position is classic Italian, arms stretched towards a large, thin spoked wheel. The soft top is easy to handle on your own, which helps when a cloud settles over the Rock. The boot is modest: two soft bags and no more. You will be working the gearbox on the climbs, and that is exactly where the Spider wins you over. Two seats, for a couple who enjoy the driving as much as the scenery.
Where to drive it
From Nice, take the Lower Corniche right along the water: Villefranche, Beaulieu, Èze-sur-Mer, then Cap-d'Ail, where the road slips into Monaco almost without warning. Once in the Principality, follow part of the Grand Prix circuit: Port Hercule, Sainte-Dévote, the climb up Beau Rivage to Casino Square and the descent to the Fairmont hairpin. Leave the car in one of the public car parks and walk up to the Rock, then return along the Middle Corniche to see the coast from above.

Is the Spider 1300 Junior underpowered?
It does not have much power, but it weighs very little. On the corniche, keep the revs up and use all five gears: it is more fun than fast, which is the whole point.
Is it easy to drive and park in Monaco?
Traffic is heavy, but the Spider is compact and nimble. Monaco has plenty of public car parks, handy for exploring the Rock or the harbour on foot.
Can I bring luggage?
The boot takes two soft bags. For a weekend, pack light or have the car delivered to your hotel, quoted on request.
What is the price and the deposit?
590 euros a day, 9am to 8pm, with 150 km, insurance for two drivers and a tailor-made itinerary. The security deposit is 4,000 euros. Drivers must be at least 25 with 3 years of licence.
