Driving the Chevrolet Corvette C3 Targa
The C3 Corvette is first of all about sitting very low behind a sculpted bonnet and curvy wings that seem to go on forever. The V8 and automatic gearbox make it surprisingly relaxed to drive: it pulls away on a whisper of throttle, rumbles at idle at the traffic lights, then surges forward on a wave of torque as soon as you press on. The two removable roof panels lift out for open air driving while the central bar stays in place, with less buffeting than a full convertible. They stow behind the seats in the luggage area, reached from inside the cabin, which then becomes fairly tight. Two seats, a wide centre console and a cockpit feel: this is a car for couples happy to make an entrance.
Where to drive it
Cannes is made for a late afternoon in a Corvette. Start on the Croisette, cruising at parade pace from the Palais des Festivals out to the Palm Beach point. Then climb into the hills of La Californie and Super-Cannes, where boulevard de l'Observatoire gives a wide view over the bay, the Lérins islands and the Esterel. Drop back down to Le Suquet for a drink in the old town before returning the car. The loop is short, but late afternoon is when the Corvette and the Croisette look their best on camera.

Chevrolet Corvette C3 Targa: your questions
Is the Corvette C3 a convertible?
No, it is a Targa with two removable roof panels separated by a central bar. You still drive under open sky, with a stiffer body and less wind in the cabin than a convertible.

No, it is an automatic. The V8 is smooth and easy going, which makes it simple to handle in Cannes traffic.
Can I rent it for a film or photo shoot?
Yes. Sunset Ride supplies cars for photo shoots and film productions, and the Corvette's 1970s shape looks great on camera. Describe your project in your request.
What is the daily rate and the deposit?
590 euros a day, 9am to 8pm, with 150 km, insurance for two drivers and a tailor-made itinerary. The security deposit is 5,000 euros.
